Insights into the Public Health Infrastructure Grant Program

With the ongoing focus on public health infrastructure and the CDC's landmark Public Health Infrastructure Grant Program, the time has never been better for workforce development initiatives. A total of $3.84 billion was awarded to 107 public health departments in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, 8 territories/freely associated states, and 48 large localities in November of 2022. Meghan Wolfe, the Associate Director of Capacity Building and Technical Assistance for the National Coordinating Center for Public Health Training at the National Network of Public Health Institutes, shares insights and updates on the Public Health Infrastructure Grant Program. Ms. Wolfe shares examples of what grantees are working on and discusses the types of assistance health departments are requesting.

 

Updates from CDC

With the ongoing and much-needed focus on rebuilding the public health workforce, the new CDC National Center for State, Tribal, Local, and Territorial Public Health Infrastructure and Workforce (Public Health Infrastructure Center) aims to improve public health outcomes by strengthening the public health infrastructure and workforce of the United States. The Public Health Infrastructure Center is made up of the people, services, and systems needed to promote and protect health in every U.S. community, and is committed to ensuring that every community enjoys the benefits and protections of effective public health services. The Center collaborates across CDC programs to advance a cohesive, efficient strategy and approach to supporting jurisdictions, tribes, and partners. Liza Corso, MPA, Senior Public Health Advisor, Office of Program Strategy and Accountability with the Public Health Infrastructure Center shares information about the priorities and activities of the new Center.
