The 2012 Society for Public Health Education (SOPHE) Annual Meeting will be held in San Francisco, California on October 25-27. The theme for the 63rd Annual Meeting will be "Mining Golden Opportunities: Health Education Policy, Research, and Practice." The meeting is set to focus on how the health education and health promotion community can take advantage of the numerous trends, technologies, and research available to further advance public health education.

 

Objectives for the Annual Meeting include:

  • Identify current and emerging trends in health education, research, and practice (Subtheme: Preparing for the Rush: The Future of Health Education and Health Promotion Practice)
  • Apply public health policy approaches to achieve health equity (Subtheme: Spreading the Wealth: Policy to Achieve Health Equity)
  • Explore population-level strategies to improve individual and community health outcomes (Subtheme: A New Frontier: Social Ecological Approaches to Improve Individual and Community Health)
  • Leverage technology to promote healthy behaviors and manage risk factors (Subtheme: The Mother Lode: Innovations in Health Communication and Technology)
  • Examine the roles of research leading practice and practice leading research (Subtheme: Planning for Evidence: The Role of Research in Establishing Best Practices)1

Public Health Foundation invites attendees to join us for the "The TRAIN Learning Management System & Competency-Based Training - the Future of Public Health Education and Promotion?" presentation from 8:30 to 10:00 AM on Saturday, October 27, 2012 in Concurrent D4. Attendees of this presentation will:

  • Recognize how TRAIN expands access to high-quality public health education for public health professionals
  • Identify the importance of the Core Competencies for Public Health Professionals to training
  • Describe how TRAIN encourages sharing competency-based resources across jurisdictional lines in order to maximize economies of scale and minimize costs

The presentations will be followed by time for a question and answer (Q&A) period.
