Presenters:Kathleen Amos, MLIS, Director, Academic/Practice Linkages, PHF, and Ron Bialek, MPP, President, PHF

Description: A skilled workforce is critical to public health and the performance of local health departments. Within the field of public health, the Core Competencies for Public Health Professionals (Core Competencies) describe skills desired for professionals delivering essential public health services. The Council on Linkages Between Academia and Public Health Practice is currently in the process of revising the Core Competencies, with an aim of releasing an updated set of Core Competencies in October 2021. This town hall-style session will provide an opportunity for participants to share their thoughts and experiences related to the Core Competencies and influence the revision process. During this interactive session, an initial draft of the revised competency set will be shared and participants will be engaged in discussion about the progress that has been made and changes that might still be needed. Feedback offered during the session will be used to make further revisions to the Core Competencies in the late summer and early fall and help finalize the competency set. Opportunities to contribute input about these competencies beyond this session, as well as for becoming more centrally involved in work related to the Core Competencies, will be provided.
