The Open Forum: Next Gene​ration (NxGen), presented by the National Network of Public Health Institutes (NNPHI), will be held September 18-20, 2024, in Chicago, IL. ​Open Forum: NxGen provides public health practitioners an opportunity to learn and engage with peers around critical topics currently facing both the public health and the healthcare workforce. The conference is committed to driving transformative change in public health by championing health equity.​

This year's theme is "​​​Shaping the Future Together," ​and will feature​:

Breakfast Roundtable ​ R8: Retention and Recruitment in Governmental Public Health​​​

Description: With the enhanced focus on public health infrastructure and workforce throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and nearly $4 billion being allocated by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to governmental public health agencies focused on workforce development, the time has never been better to build the workforce needed to protect and promote health. This session will share what is known about why people choose to work in governmental public health, why they choose to leave, and strategies and tools to improve our ability to retain and recruit employees. In this workshop session participants can dig deep into the various strategies and tools that were presented and learn from each other. Small group discussions will be facilitated simultaneously on each of the strategy categories presented. Participants will hear from each other about the use of specific strategies, implementation, what worked and didn’t, how they might begin, how to pitch the idea to their leadership or board.​

Data Science Training for All – A Public Health Imperative

Join us in accessing training on the spot so you can plan to advance your own skills and share this information with others. Data science is essential for everyone as together we transform public health to make the best use of information to work with communities and achieve better health for all.
