Location: Hilton New Orleans Riverside, Grand Salon 4, 2 Poydras St., New Orleans

End Date: 11/17/2014

A 90-minute session at the American Public Health Association’s 142nd Annual Meeting in New Orleans, LA this November will introduce the newly revised Core Competencies for Public Health Professionals (Core Competencies). Following a yearlong review and revision process, in June 2014, the Council on Linkages Between Academia and Public Health Practice (Council on Linkages) unanimously adopted the revised Core Competencies, a set of foundational skills desirable for professionals engaging in the practice, education, and research of public health.

During this interactive session, participants will learn about the Core Competencies and how they are being used by public health organizations, changes in the 2014 version of the Core Competencies and how these changes address feedback from the public health community, and tools that can facilitate use of the Core Competencies. Participants will be given the opportunity to ask questions about the revisions and discuss the impact these revisions may have on use of the Core Competencies within their organizations. Join your colleagues in exploring the latest updates to the Core Competencies and how these changes support workforce development efforts within public health.
