Abstract: Given current economic, organizational, and political realities, are there particular competencies where it makes sense to focus limited professional development time and funds? This interactive session will discuss current realities facing LHDs, the
Core Competencies for Public Health Professionals, and a quality improvement method to prioritize these core competencies to identify the ones that will help an LHD meet the realities of today. Participants will use a prioritization matrix in small teams to help them focus on critical core competencies to improve their LHDs’ skill level. Ways to identify free online courses available to enhance core competencies skill levels for public health workers also will be discussed.
