The Public Health Foundation (PHF) will be participating in the National Association of Local Boards of Health (NALBOH) 21st Annual Conference from August 14-16 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

PHF will be providing information on improving public health, including quality improvement, performance management, and workforce development services, products, and resources.

The NALBOH 21st Annual Conference will provide board of health members, senior agency officials, and national public health leaders with information on public health governance functions, engaging citizens, and the role of effective leadership in healthy communities.

PHF Workshop: Taking Your Board of Health to the Next Level: Completing a Self-Assessment and Using the Results for Long-Term Impact

Workshop Description: Over the last year, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and NALBOH have developed the third update to the National Public Health Performance Standards (NPHPS) Governance Instrument. This new version is significantly streamlined and provides knowledge and skills to help improve the board of health improve its jurisdiction’s health for years to come.

 

Through this workshop, participants will actively engage in discussion and activities to learn about the benefits and use results for quality improvement purposes.

 

Attendees will first work with presenters to complete one section of the Governance Instrument as a group, and then focus on ways to use the results of the assessment, including hands-on practice for identifying root causes of weakness, prioritizing issues, and placing details into an effective strategic plan for the board of health.

 

PHF Workshop: Operationalizing and Aligning Your Organization’s Workforce Development Plan to Achieve Desired Results

Workshop Description: The Public Health Accreditation Board requires local health departments seeking accreditation to develop a community health assessment, community health improvement plan, strategic plan, quality improvement plan, workforce development plan, and a performance management system.

 

This session will focus on aligning an organization’s workforce development plan to aim towards health department accreditation.

 

Conference Objectives

The objectives of the NALBOH 21st Annual Conference include:

  • Describing the association between the 10 Essential Public Health Services, Public Health Core Functions, and the Six Functions of Public Health Governance for a strong board of health and health department relationship
  • Identifying evidence-based best practices for involving citizens in public health decision making
  • Describing the role of board development for effective leaders in healthy communities
