Advancing the public health workforce to achieve organizational excellence
Quality Improvement Programs

Overview

The Public Health Foundation (PHF) has more than 40 years of experience working with local and state health departments, non-profit organizations, and the federal government to strengthen the quality of public health practice. The following programs are a sample of current and past quality improvement (QI) projects.

Current Programs:

  • Vector Control Initiatives: PHF and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) are currently collaborating with five vector control programs at local health departments to further refine the Vector Control Population Health Driver Diagram and test its use as a tool to engage community partners. In 2014, PHF and CDC collaborated on a performance improvement initiative to assist 14 local health departments to increase their vector control programs' efficiency, effectiveness, and capacity.

  • Antibiotic Stewardship Program: PHF led development of a driver diagram illustrating public health’s role in promoting antibiotic stewardship. An interdisciplinary team of experts in QI, infection control, epidemiology, and public health leadership, identified primary and secondary drivers of optimal antibiotic use to reduce the spread of antibiotic resistant infections and other adverse impacts of inappropriate antibiotic use. The resulting Public Health Antibiotic Stewardship Driver Diagram maps drivers of optimal antibiotic use.
