The 2012 Emergency Preparedness and Hazmat Response Conference, held September 23-27 in Baltimore, MD, focused on promoting and developing emergency management skills and knowledge. The nation’s premier all-hazards conference for government and industry with quality education, training, and networking brought together professionals across the emergency management and planning landscape, including local, state, and federal employees, first responders, hospital personnel, and others specialists. Training, workshops, and exhibitors at the conference offered opportunities to support emergency preparedness and response operations for attendees.

TRAIN, the premier  learning management network for professionals who protect the public's health (offered as a service of the Public Health Foundation) comprises 25 states and 3 national organizations (the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, CDC’s Division of Global Migration and Quarantine, and the Medical Reserve Corps), provided several hundred conference participants the opportunity to learn about the TRAIN model of distance learning. In addition to a constant presence in the exhibit hall, attendees explored TRAIN through two “Lunch & Learn” sessions that outlined how TRAIN encourages access to high-quality public health and emergency preparedness training, improves sharing of resources across jurisdictional lines, and generates cost-savings through economies of scale. TRAIN’s participation at the conference highlighted training intersections between public health and emergency response. By promoting this interconnectivity, TRAIN provides tools and resources for stakeholders across health domains to work together to support emergency preparedness everywhere.
