The Academic Health Department (AHD) Learning Community has joined with the Journal of Public Health Management and Practice (JPHMP), the National Association of County and City Health Officials, and the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials to issue a call for abstracts for an AHD-themed issue of the JPHMP. Scheduled to appear in November-December 2013, this issue will highlight AHD partnerships, formal relationships between academic health professions institutions and public health practice organizations, such as state or local health departments, designed to enhance public health education and training, research, and service. Abstracts are invited for papers that describe case examples of these relationships, covering topics such as benefits, challenges, elements of success or failure, or impact. Abstracts are being accepted by email to Lloyd Novick, MD, MPH, Editor, JPHMP, at [email protected] through September 30, 2012.

The AHD Learning Community is an initiative of the Council on Linkages Between Academia and Public Health Practice (Council on Linkages) that enables collaborative learning, knowledge exchange, and resource development to support the creation, maintenance, and expansion of AHDs. Launched in January 2011, the AHD Learning Community currently has more than 160 members from states and organizations across the country. Paul Campbell Erwin, MD, DrPH, member of the Public Health Foundation’s Board of Directors and the AHD Learning Community, and C. William Keck, MD, MPH, Chair of the Council on Linkages and lead for the AHD Learning Community initiative, will serve as guest editors for the AHD issue of the JPHMP.

Full abstract submission details for the upcoming theme issue of the JPHMP on AHDs can be found in the call for abstracts. For more information about AHDs or the AHD Learning Community, please visit the AHD Learning Community webpage or contact Kathleen Amos at [email protected].
