Council on Linkages Members Report on Core Competencies Dissemination Activities

The 2014 version of the Core Competencies for Public Health Professionals (Core Competencies) was adopted by the Council on Linkages on June 26, 2014. Since that date, Council on Linkages member organizations, members of the Core Competencies Workgroup, and other public health professionals and organizations have assisted with disseminating this revised version of the Core Competencies to the broad public health community. Dissemination efforts have included email announcements, newsletter articles, presentations at meetings and conferences, webinars, and updates to the TRAIN learning management network, among other activities. During the meeting, Council on Linkages members shared their organizations' dissemination activities, reporting on a range of efforts. Dissemination activities of the Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB) and the Public Health Foundation were also discussed.

AHD Learning Community Developing an AHD Mentorship Program

The Academic Health Department (AHD) Learning Community has begun development of an AHD Mentorship Program, which is expected to launch early this year. Currently in the planning stages, this program aims to foster AHDs by building ongoing relationships between individuals involved in AHD efforts, connecting people seeking guidance related to AHD development or operation with those who have experience or expertise in these areas. Bryn Manzella, MPH, from the Jefferson County Department of Health (AL) is chairing the program, and approximately 40 AHD Learning Community members have expressed interest in serving as mentors or mentees to date. A brief form has been drafted to help collect information from potential mentors about areas in which they have experience or expertise and are willing to offer guidance to others. Information about mentors will be made available on the Council on Linkages website and will be used to help connect mentees with appropriate mentors. Updates on development of the mentorship program will be shared through the Council on Linkages Update, and expressions of interest in participating are welcome by email to Kathleen Amos at [email protected].
