​​​​​The Public Health Foundation (PHF) is pleased to announce that Dr. Joan Duwve has been elected to the PHF B​oard of Directors, an eleven-member body comprised of state and local health officials, a local board of health member, and individuals from the academic, private sector, and other public health agency settings.​​​​​


Joan Duwve, MD, MPH has over 20 years of experience in public health and is the current State Health Officer for the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE). Prior to her work with KDHE, Dr. Duwve served as the Director of Public Health for the South Carolina Department of Health and Environment Control, developing the statewide COVID-19 testing and surveillance program and prioritizing COVID-19 website updates for transparency and effective visualizations.


Dr. Duwve also served as the Associate Dean of Practice for the Indiana University Richard M. Fairbanks Schools of Public Health in Indianapolis, Indiana. While in this position, she developed and directed the ECHO Center to train primary care providers in rural communities treating patients with complex conditions. Her experience in public health practice and academia will contribute to PHF’s efforts to help create, foster, and expand academic health department partnerships nationwide.


With Dr. Duwve's exceptional public health background, including practicing family medicine for 11 years, PHF is eager to continue to build collaborative bridges between public health practice, academia, and healthcare to achieve optimal health and well-being for all.​
