The Public Health Foundation (PHF) along with Performance Improvement Managers (PIMs), grantees, Capacity Building Assistance (CBA) partners, Senior Public Health Advisors, Performance Officers, subject matter experts, and CDC staff, were brought together at the first National Public Health Improvement Initiative (NPHII) Grantee Meeting to learn, share best practices, build and refine performance improvement skills, and network with one another. As one of the CBA partners, PHF provided training on quality improvement tools, workforce development, and introduced
Modular kaizen, an approach that aims to help health departments achieve quick improvements in disruptive environments. A list of competencies, pulled from the Core Competencies for Public Health Professionals, were used to shape the general sessions. The meeting agenda, program book, presentations, and meeting evaluation are available online. The NPHII Grantee meeting was held on March 30 - Friday, April 1, 2011 in Atlanta, Georgia. For more information on this meeting, visit the CDC NPHII website.
In 2010,
CDC released $42.5 million, supported through the Prevention and Public Health Fund of the Affordable Care Act, to fund 76 state, tribal, local and territorial health departments. Through NPHII, CDC is providing resources to public health departments to systematically increase the performance management capacity and to ensure that public health goals are effectively and efficiently met. These efforts also increase their ability and capacity to meet national, voluntary public health accreditation standards. To sustain and support this initiative, CDC inaugurated the National Performance Improvement Network, consisting of PIMs from state, tribal, local and territorial public health departments who may use various performance improvement models to conduct this critical work.
