The Public Health Foundation is pleased to introduce our new member of our Board of Directors, Bobbie Berkowitz Ph.D., RN, CNAA, FAAN. Dr. Berkowitz began her three year appointment on the Public Health Foundation Board of Directors on July 1, 2010.
Dr. Berkowitz became the Dean of Columbia University School of Nursing, in New York September 1, 2010. In addition to serving on the Public Health Foundation Board, Dr. Berkowitz is an elected member of the prestigious Institute of Medicine board, a member of the Institute of Medicine board on Populations Health and Public Health Practice, an elected fellow of the American Academy of Nursing as well as a member of the Academy’s Board of Directors.
The Public Health Foundation staff is very excited to have such an enthusiastic and dedicated member as Dr. Berkowitz return to the board.
The Public Health Foundation Board of Directors consists of 11 members who come from a variety of public health backgrounds which creates a wide variety of perspective and valuable insight. The Board provides direction and oversight to the Public Health Foundation.
The Board has seven key responsibilities, to:
- Function as a generative board,
- Be strategic,
- Select, support and assess the chief staff executive,
- Ensure funding sources and expenditures match strategic direction,
- Enhance the organization’s professional, industry and public image,
- Define the board’s governance style and assess its own performance,
- Operate in an ethical and legal manner.
