New Training: Helping Restaurants Reduce the Spread of COVID-19

Want to help your community’s food and drink establishments reduce the spread of COVID-19? The training, Safety First: Helping Restaurants Reduce the Spread of COVID-19, developed by the Public Health Foundation (PHF) in partnership with the Food and Society Program at the Aspen Institute, provides guidance and resources to help restaurants protect their staff and patrons from COVID-19 and other airborne diseases, such as influenza. Upcoming Release: Epidemiology and Prevention of Vaccine-Preventable Diseases, 14th Edition, "The Pink Book"

Preorders are now being accepted for the new 14th edition of Epidemiology and Prevention of Vaccine-Preventable Diseases, also known as “The Pink Book.” Developed by experts at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and distributed exclusively by PHF, this new edition contains comprehensive and updated information for public health practitioners, healthcare providers, and others on topics such as the 16 routine vaccines, principles of vaccination, general best practice guidance on immunization, and vaccine safety and administration. Calling All Public Health Training Developers  

If you develop training for your organization and are interested in improving your skills, apply for CDC’s free, six-month online E-Learning Institute (ELI) Fellowship. Offered in partnership with PHF, this fellowship offers training and mentoring by skilled training developers. Applicants do not need to have formal education in training development. Learn more about ELI and apply by October 30, 2021.
 
 
 
COVID-19 Funding Can Support Your Training Needs

Health departments have expressed confusion about using COVID-19 funds for training and supporting training systems. CDC has issued an FAQs document that explicitly states that “training is an integral component of this funding” and the funding can be used for training to build core competencies. Read more on page 5, question 31 of the FAQs, and share with your agency’s leadership.

2022 Open Forum: Next Generation Call for Abstracts

The Open Forum: Next Generation provides public health practitioners an opportunity to learn and engage with peers around critical topics currently facing both the public health workforce and the healthcare workforce. Abstract submissions for the 2022 virtual event are invited in three learning tracks: Infection Prevention and Control, Vaccine Access and Distribution Across the Life Course, and Improving the Public Health Infrastructure.
