Dear Subscriber,

PHF E-News brings you the latest information on how you can use performance management, quality improvement, and workforce development to improve the quality and performance of your organization and the health of your community.
Navigating the Seas of Public Health Workforce Development

Are you confused about all of the public health workforce development studies and frameworks being discussed to help prioritize and guide public health workforce development activities? An interactive session at the American Public Health Association's 143rd Annual Meeting this fall in Chicago, IL will provide an opportunity to learn how these multiple initiatives are indeed aligning and contributing to developing an even stronger public health workforce for the future. Hear from national experts about these initiatives, and explore with colleagues where there is clarity and confusion. Find out more details and mark your calendar to attend this informative session.

Recapping a Year in the Field with PHF's Performance Improvement Experts

It has been a busy year for experts from the Public Health Foundation (PHF) who deliver Performance Improvement (PI) Services in performance management, quality improvement (QI), and workforce development. They covered a lot of ground, providing customized on-site technical assistance and training in 28 states to help build capacity and strengthen public health practice among professionals from 131 health departments. What services have been most popular? What creative ways have health departments used to pay for technical assistance and training? What has been achieved? See the latest trends and totals as Margie Beaudry recaps an active year in the field in her PHF Pulse Blog post.

Assisting Vector Control Programs Through Performance Improvement Initiative

Since August 2014, PHF has been collaborating with the National Center for Environmental Health of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on the Vector Control Performance Assessment and Improvement Initiative. The idea originated from CDC's desire to help vector control programs at local health departments improve their performance using self-assessment and quality improvement (QI) tools. With funding from CDC, PHF assisted 13 local health departments to increase their vector control programs' efficiency, effectiveness, and capacity. Learn more about the program and what accomplishments have been made to date.

Academic Health Department Mentorship Program Now Open

Hands Together With the launch of the Academic Health Department (AHD) Mentorship Program, the newest initiative of the Council on Linkages Between Academia and Public Health Practice is now a reality! Developed within the existing AHD Learning Community in response to feedback from Learning Community members, the AHD Mentorship Program aims to foster the development, maintenance, and expansion of AHDs by building ongoing mentoring relationships between individuals involved in AHD efforts. Get involved and learn more about the program in Kathleen Amos' latest PHF Pulse Blog post.

Medical Reserve Corps Releases National Training Plan on MRC TRAIN

The Division of the Civilian Volunteer Medical Reserve Corps (MRC), part of the TRAIN learning management network, has published a national training plan, the National MRC Volunteer Training Plan, on MRC's TRAIN portal (MRC-TRAIN). The training plan is available to all MRC units, the national network of local groups of volunteers committed to improving the public's health, emergency response, and resiliency of their communities. Importantly, the training plan helps establish a foundational level of knowledge and skills that all MRC volunteers should have and maintain. MRC volunteers are invited to access the training plan today and begin expanding both skills and knowledge.
