Today, the Public Health Foundation (PHF) announced a new partnership with the American Public Health Association (APHA) to expand public health resource offerings through its Learning Resource Center (LRC).  LRC will carry five APHA-authored texts that address critical public health challenges in areas such as violence, prevention, disability, and obesity.  These new titles will be available through the PHF Online Store next month.

Violence
Youth Violence: Interventions for Health Care Providers aims to advance the field of youth violence prevention by identifying the opportunities, benefits, and challenges of addressing this issue.  It focuses on emergency-based programs, including the challenges associated with their development, and describes program-models that can be replicated or adapted by health care professionals to effectively address youth violence in your community.

Confronting Violence: Answering Questions About the Epidemic Destroying America’s Homes and Communities, Third Edition provides a comprehensive look into the many forms that violence can take.  It begins by explaining societal determinants of violence, specifically addressing the question of whether America is exceptionally violent.  Each chapter addresses one type of violence, from physical and emotional abuse of children, to murder, homicide, and suicide.  The text concludes by examining the future of violence prevention.

Prevention
Prevention is Primary: Strategies for Community Well-Being, Second Edition explains the transition from prevention theory to implementation and collaboration through evaluation.  It identifies models, methods, and approaches for building health and equity in communities, and outlines effective ways to do so in the current economic and health care climate.  Focusing on prevention, it illustrates practical social and health interventions and addresses other ways to prevent the health challenges facing at-risk groups.

Disability
Disability and Public Health examines the many aspects of disability in a public health framework.  It begins by providing a history of disability and public health, and moves on to consider the impact of cultural and governmental factors in the epidemiology of disability.  It also focuses on the social determinants of disability and the tools necessary to develop systems of health promotion for the disabled, including health education, health literacy, and organizational services.

Obesity
Preventing Childhood Obesity in Early Care and Education provides standards of nutrition, physical activity, and screen time for early care and education programs to prevent excessive weight gain in children and reverse the obesity trend among this population.  The standards, which were developed by APHA with the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the National Resource Center for Health and Safety in Child Care and Early Education, support key national campaigns for early development of healthy lifestyle habits.

The Public Health Foundation's Learning Resource Center (LRC) is where public health, health care, and allied health professionals can find high quality training materials at an affordable price. These informative materials cover areas such as quality improvement, performance management, infectious diseases, epidemiology, diabetes, preparedness, and immunization. Materials are available in a variety of formats, including print, software, resource manuals, physician guides, and patient brochures.

LRC also specializes in marketing services for promoting public health products.  New product distribution opportunities are available, contact Antoinette Barber if your organization is interested.
