Last month, over a half-billion eggs from two Iowa farms were recalled due to salmonella contamination. Over 1,600 people from fourteen states have been sickened by the eggs, which were sold between April and August.
The poisoning could have been caused by many factors including rodents or contaminated hens or feed.
This outbreak has called renewed attention to the issue of food safety. While prevention of foodborne disease is the most desirable option, outbreaks still occur. Health care professionals must be able to recognize, investigate, and control the epidemic.
The Learning Resource Center’s
self-instructional epidemiologic case studies prepare public health practitioners for such situations. Available in manuals and on CD-ROMS, trainees will work through actual events from beginning to end, answering questions in order to advance.
