The Prescribers' Clinical Support System for Opioid Therapies (PCSS-O) is a three-year grant funded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT). This collaborative project is led by the American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry in conjunction with the following organizations: American Dental Association, American Medical Association, American Osteopathic Academy of Addiction Medicine, American Psychiatric Association, American Society for Pain Management Nursing, and the International Nurses Society on Addictions.1 “The program offers educational resources developed by the partner organizations for clinicians who prescribe and treat using opioid medications either for treatment of pain and/or for treatment of opioid dependence,” explained Dr. Kevin Sevarino, Medical Director of PCSS-O. The focus of this project is to reach prescribers and/or prescribers-in-training from diverse healthcare professions including physicians, nurses, dentists, physician assistants, pharmacists, and program administrators to offer free, accessible, evidence-based trainings.2
A series of webinars developed to support this project have been made available by the American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry through TRAIN, the nation’s premier learning management network for professionals who protect the public’s health. By adding this series to TRAIN, the webinars are reaching over 750,000 health professionals across various roles and workplace environments. Dr. Sevarino also stated that “PCSS-O is pleased to collaborate with TRAIN to help improve access to this program.”
