This year, it is essential that healthcare personnel make a strong flu vaccine recommendation to their patients. Being vaccinated for the flu can help prevent co-infection between COVID-19 and the flu, as well as reduce stress on our healthcare system. By decreasing the number of preventable flu-related doctor’s visits and hospitalizations, we can help preserve scarce medical resources, and it's not too late to give and get the flu vaccine!

Public Health Foundation (PHF) has highlighted several key resources from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to support you in making a strong vaccination recommendation this winter and into spring.

This collection of resources highlights important information for this flu season. It includes guidelines for testing and treating the flu while COVID-19 is co-circulating, tips for flu vaccination clinic planning, and information about influenza antiviral medications.

This resource describes the S.H.A.R.E. method for making a strong flu vaccine recommendation. This page also includes information on the different types of flu vaccines that are available for the 2020-2021 flu season.

This collection of resources includes general considerations for administering routine and flu vaccines during a pandemic as well as important considerations for immunizing specific patient populations.
For more information on the benefits of late-season flu vaccination, and how to safely administer the vaccine during the COVID-19 pandemic, visit this December 2020 PHF archived webinar.

These short videos feature clinicians sharing how they address common questions and concerns raised by patients and families about the flu vaccine. This compilation includes topics such as recommending the vaccine to pregnant patients, parents or guardians of pediatric patients, older patients, patients with diabetes, and patients who may have some misconceptions about the flu vaccine.

This tool can help users easily locate nearby influenza, routine, and travel vaccine providers. The CDC has created a series of widgets that can be placed on your website to help visitors access this flu vaccine locations throughout the 2020-2021 flu season.

This toolkit is intended to help partners communicate the importance of flu vaccination to their patients. It includes social media messages and graphics, videos, and print ready materials, and links to multi-language fact sheets and Spanish communication resources,.

For questions or to recommend materials or trainings for communicating about flu vaccination, contact Vanessa Lamers at vlamers@phf.org.
