Use of the Core Competencies for Public Health Professionals for Health Department Performance Improvement and Public Health Accreditation Board Accreditation

Overview

The Core Competencies for Public Health Professionals (Core Competencies) are a consensus set of foundational skills for the broad practice of public health and are used by public health professionals and organizations across the country. To help guide future work related to the Core Competencies, the Council on Linkages Between Academia and Public Health Practice (Council on Linkages) has begun exploring the use of these competencies for performance improvement within public health, with a particular focus on how the competencies can support the achievement of accreditation through the Public Health Accreditation Board. This summary details results of this exploration through June 2016. For more information about the Council on Linkages or the Core Competencies, please contact Kathleen Amos at kamos@phf.org.
