Crosswalk of the 2014 Core Competencies for Public Health Professionals and the 2020 Essential Public Health Services

Overview

The Core Competencies for Public Health Professionals (Core Competencies) are a consensus set of foundational or crosscutting knowledge and skills for the broad practice of public health, as defined by the 10 Essential Public Health Services (EPHS). To ensure that the Core Competencies help build the skills necessary for the delivery of these services, the Core Competencies were mapped with the EPHS.

 
This crosswalk of the 2014 version of the Core Competencies and the 2020 version of the EPHS illustrates the relationships between the individual competencies within the Core Competencies and the EPHS. It can be used by public health professionals and organizations to determine which competencies support each of these services.
 
This crosswalk is based on the version of the Core Competencies adopted by the Council on Linkages Between Academia and Public Health Practice in June 2014 and the version of the EPHS released in September 2020.
