Fostering a Culture of Immunization in Your Practice

Continuing Education (CE)

Anticipated Release: Summer 2024

Description

Vaccination is important at every stage of life because it provides essential health benefits and contributes to individual well-being and public health.

On-time vaccination throughout childhood is essential because it helps provide immunity before children are exposed to potentially life-threatening diseases. Disruptions during COVID-19, due to reduced reported enrollment and school response rates, led to decreased routine immunization rates for children.

Despite the importance of adult vaccination, at least 3 of every 4 adults are missing one or more routinely recommended vaccines. Routine immunization of adults greatly declined during the COVID-19 pandemic as fewer people received preventive care, exacerbating already low adult vaccination rates.

This training, developed in collaboration with the Centers for Diseases Control and Prevention, features a renewed emphasis on practical strategies for all healthcare workers to help create a culture of immunization to ensure the best possible care for patients and the promotion of vaccination efforts. By highlighting key points before, during, and after a patient's visit to support vaccine conversations, this course will reinforce best practices for improving vaccination rates. Topics will cover various strategies for involving the entire practice in communicating effectively about vaccinations and implementing systems to ensure all patients receive on-time vaccinations. This includes practical strategies to:

  1. Make vaccine resources easy to find
  2. Review vaccination status, make effective recommendations, and prepare patients to receive vaccines
  3. Answer questions and address concerns
  4. Schedule upcoming vaccinations before the patient leaves the office
  5. Remind patients about upcoming vaccination appointments and missed appointments
Audience:
  • Clinicians
  • Nurses
  • Medical assistants
  • Pharmacists
  • Other healthcare professionals
