Under leadership from the Summit Medical Group, three teams including the City of Knoxville, Statcare Pulmonary Consultants, and Tennessee Valley Primary Care, participated in a rapid Plan-Do-Check-Act cycle to improve the quality of asthma care delivered to adults. With assistance from Public Health Foundation's (PHF) Quality Improvement (QI) Experts, each Summit team began a QI process by brainstorming system improvements and designing a roadmap to help them implement these improvements. The QI tools and methods helped the teams streamline operations, improve documentation of quality measures, and enhance communication between the health care teams that interact with patients with asthma.

With a charitable contribution from AstraZeneca, PHF completed the final phase of We Can Do Better: Improving Asthma Outcomes in America in 2011, which brought together asthma stakeholders in the public health community to use QI tools and methods to identify areas where they could improve asthma management outcomes.
