When to Apply QI Tools to Support Measurement Activities

Overview

The Public Health Foundation (PHF) and the National Network of Public Health Institutes (NNPHI) have worked collaboratively to develop a tool to help public health organizations identify and apply quality improvement (QI) tools to support measurement activities. The tool is designed to be used alongside the Public Health Quality Improvement Encyclopedia.

The tool provides a brief overview of how and when to use 25 QI tools to strengthen specific measurement activities:

  • Choosing Measures
  • Choosing Indicators
  • Managing Data Quality
  • Analyzing and Interpreting Data

The tool is a working document and was developed through a cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC’s) Office of State, Tribal, Local, and Territorial Support (OSTLTS), through the National Public Health Improvement Initiative (NPHII) with funding from the Affordable Care Act Capacity Building Assistance to Improve Public Health Infrastructure Investments.

We welcome and encourage any suggestions for improving the tool. Please send input and feedback to Margie Beaudry.
