QI QuickStart: Applying the PDCA Cycle in Public Health (Online Training)

Ready to make measurable improvements in public health?

This introductory course provides public health professionals with the fundamentals of Quality Improvement (QI) using the Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) cycle. Through clear explanations and real-world examples, learners will gain the skills to define QI, apply each phase of the PDCA cycle, and implement sustainable improvements that enhance public health outcomes. The Course includes:

  • Lesson I: The Basics – Quality Improvement & the PDCA Cycle
  • Lesson II: The PDCA Cycle – Key Activities in Each Phase 
  • Quiz: Score 75% or higher to earn a PHF Certificate of Completion

Upon completing this training, participants should be able to:

  1. Define quality improvement (QI) and describe its role in enhancing public health outcomes.
  2. Explain the purpose and key activities of each phase in the PDCA cycle.
  3. Apply the PDCA cycle to a public health scenario to test and evaluate process improvement.
  4. Develop a plan to sustain and spread successful improvements across teams or departments.
