Selecting Quality Improvement Team Members

This tool for Selecting Quality Improvement Team Members provides a commonsense approach to constructing a QI team that is likely to succeed. The success of any quality improvement (QI) endeavor depends not on the number of people involved but on how well the team functions and works together. QI team members must respect one another, share common goals and timelines, and have a positive disposition toward making improvements. While dispositions can be defined in various ways, such as attitude, mood, or behavior, some are better suited for effectively pursuing QI in teams.

Developed by Heather Reffett of the District of Columbia Department of Health and Public Health Foundation (PHF) team members Harry Lenderman, John W. Moran, and Margie Beaudry, this tool along with the accompanying Team Member Selection Matrix  can be used to rate QI team candidates on 34 characteristics.
