Public Health Foundation (PHF) Senior Quality Advisor, Jack Moran, will present with Richard Melchreit, Connecticut Department of Health Coordinator of the Healthcare-Associated Infections Program, about the Application of quality improvement methods and tools to public health – a healthcare associated infections prevention collaborative case study at the NortheastEpidemiology Conference. This is a regional conference of the Council of Stateand Territorial Epidemiologists. Registration is open to the public.
Presentation Summary:
Quality Improvement (QI) has been effectively used in the manufacturing industry for decades, but public health and medical care are just beginning to systematically use QI resources to improve health services and outcomes. The benefits of QI for health departments have been recognized and QI is now a key element in public health
accreditation. This presentation will describe how QI methods and tools are being used to reduce healthcare-associated infections in ways that make it easier for long term care facilities to adopt and sustain best practices. The presentation is scheduled for Thursday October 4 from 10:30am – 12 noon.
The Connecticut Department of Public Health is receiving technical assistance from PHF to apply QI tools and techniques to a winnable battle (reducing
Clostridium difficile infections in long term care facilities) through the
2012 Future of Public Health Award. This award was established by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and PHF to foster the use of QI tools and techniques in public health.
