​​​​​Workforce development in public health aims to improve health outcomes by ​enhancing the training, skills, and performance of public health workers.

At the Public Health Foundation (PHF), we know that a well-prepared public health workforce is the foundation of a healthy community. We are committed to providing the public health field with resources, tools, and services to train the workforce so that it is better positioned to deliver the Essential Public Health Services. We offer an array of services, resources, and programs that public health practitioners and academics can use to strengthen the workforce in this dynamic world. These include:

• TRAIN Learning Network - Our learning management network, TRAIN is the nation's premiere learning resource for professionals who protect the public's health. TRAIN houses thousands of onsite training and distance learning public health courses offered by 3,000 providers. Visit www.TRAIN.org to start searching for courses.

• Learning Resource Center - PHF's online store, the Learning Resource Center (LRC) distributes over 300 resources. It provides public health professionals with essential information; quality and affordable materials; one-stop shopping; fast delivery; online ordering on a user-friendly, secure website; multiple toll-free phone lines; and excellent customer service.

• Council on Linkages Between Academia and Public Health Practice (Council on Linkages) - This ​​coalition of representatives from 24 national public health organizations has been fostering academic/practice collaboration to assure a well-trained, competent workforce and strong, evidence-based health infrastructure since 1992. The Council on Linkages developed ​the Core Competencies for Public Health Professionals, which are used by hundreds of health departments across the US.
