Join the AHD Learning Community in Exploring Characteristics of AHDs at October Meeting

October is fast approaching and, with it, the next meeting of the Academic Health Department (AHD) Learning Community. This virtual meeting will explore characteristics of AHDs through a presentation by AHD Learning Community member Paul Campbell Erwin, MD, DrPH, of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, followed by open discussion. Dr. Erwin led a recent survey effort to learn more about AHDs and will be sharing results of this survey and considering how the data gathered can help build the evidence base for AHDs. Many Learning Community members participated in the survey; join the meeting to hear what they had to share about their AHD experiences and add your own thoughts. The meeting will be held by webinar on Wednesday, October 22nd from 1:00-1:45 pm EDT, and registration is required. Please visit the meeting webpage for additional information or http://train.enterthemeeting.com/m/BFWH6PWX to register. Questions may be sent to Kathleen Amos at [email protected].

What Would You Like to Know about the 2014 Core Competencies for Public Health Professionals?

The Council on Linkages Between Academia and Public Health Practice (Council on Linkages) released a revised version of the Core Competencies for Public Health Professionals (Core Competencies) earlier this summer and is now working to assist public health professionals and organizations with integrating the Core Competencies into workforce development efforts. Over the coming months, several opportunities for learning more about the Core Competencies and the changes made during the revision process will be available to public health professionals, including a session at this fall's American Public Health Association Annual Meeting, a series of virtual town hall meetings, and updates to the Council on Linkages website focused on examples of how organizations are using the Core Competencies and on Frequently Asked Questions about the Core Competencies. Your input is key to ensuring these activities meet the needs of the public health community. What questions are you encountering as you incorporate the Core Competencies into your work? How are you using the Core Competencies, and what information would make your work with the Core Competencies easier? Share your questions, suggestions, and examples of Core Competencies use by emailing [email protected], and help enhance your own and others' workforce development activities.
