Calling Those Involved with Academic Health Department Partnerships! Have You Joined the Academic Health Department Mentorship Program?
Do you have experience developing, maintaining, or expanding academic health department (AHD) partnerships, or are you looking for assistance with such activities? The AHD Mentorship Program, an initiative of the AHD Learning Community, could be for you! Launched in June 2015, the AHD Mentorship Program connects individuals seeking guidance in an area of AHD development or operation with those having experience in that area, helping to build ongoing mentoring relationships that support mutual learning and the sharing of expertise. The AHD Mentorship Program boasts a growing group of mentors, but there is always room for more. Additional participants - both mentors and mentees - are welcome at any time. Visit the PHF Pulse Blog to learn more about how the AHD Mentorship Program can help build connections between academia and public health practice and how to get involved, and contact Janelle Nichols at [email protected] with any questions. |
Revising the Council on Linkages' Strategic Directions
As work continues to refresh the Strategic Directions of the Council on Linkages Between Academia and Public Health Practice (Council on Linkages) to ensure Council on Linkages activities meet ongoing and emerging needs within the public health community, common themes have begun to emerge. In addition to maintaining many of the current objectives, strategies, and tactics present in the Strategic Directions, feedback from Council on Linkages member organizations has emphasized the need to reflect changes that are occurring in the public health field due to health systems transformation, clarify language and define the audience for certain activities, highlight the relevance and use of Council on Linkages products outside the traditional public health realm, and broaden the focus on collaborative research to include additional ways of building the evidence base, among other areas. This input is guiding the drafting of the Strategic Directions, 2016-2020, with the draft expected to be available to Council on Linkages member organizations in June for review and approval. Questions about the Strategic Directions or the refresh process may be sent to Kathleen Amos at [email protected]. |

Community Health Mapping Workshop to be Held June 7-8 at the National Library of Medicine
Council on Linkages Between Academia and Public Health Practice member organization, the National Library of Medicine (NLM); the National Institutes of Health; the Department of Health and Human Services; and Health-Equity.Org are co-sponsoring the first Community Health Maps workshop on June 7-8, 2016. This event will be held in the Lister Hill Auditorium at NLM in Bethesda, MD, and a draft agenda is currently available. The workshop will bring together federal, state, and local government representatives; related associations; members of academia; community health professionals; community activists; information specialists; and information technologists from across the country to share and discuss new ideas and methodologies for empowering community organizations serving vulnerable or underserved populations with low cost, intuitive mapping technology. Join the workshop to hear experiences using the Community Health Maps workflow and learn how access to quality health information and the ability to visualize that data - to better understand and portray their significance to the community - can support efforts to reduce health disparities in underserved communities. To attend the event, please contact Colette Hochstein, DMD, MLS, at [email protected]. |
