Register Now for December AHD Learning Community Meeting Featuring Academic Health Collaborative of Worcester
Join the Academic Health Department (AHD) Learning Community for its next virtual meeting on Tuesday, December 13th, 2016 from 3-4pm EST to learn about the Academic Health Collaborative of Worcester (MA), which fosters collaboration between the Worcester Division of Public Health, UMass Memorial Health Care, and academic partners to improve community health and develop public health research and practice leaders. During this meeting, speakers from the Worcester Division of Public Health will address topics such as need for increased capacity, Public Health Accreditation Board accreditation, funding, strategic planning, and future growth. Council on Linkages Releases Academic Health Department Research Agenda
The Council on Linkages Between Academia and Public Health Practice (Council on Linkages) is pleased to announce the release of the Academic Health Department (AHD) Research Agenda. The latest product of the AHD Learning Community, this research agenda explores questions related to effectively measuring the value of AHD partnerships in enhancing public health and determining best practices critical to partnership success, and suggests opportunities for collaborative research on the structure, functions, and impacts of AHDs. Development of the research agenda occurred over the past year and was led by AHD Learning Community member Paul Campbell Erwin, MD, DrPH, University of Tennessee Department of Public Health, with input from a small team of experts, the Council on Linkages, the AHD Learning Community, and other public health professionals from across the country. APHA Annual Meeting Highlights Council on Linkages Initiatives
Initiatives of the Council on Linkages Between Academia and Public Health Practice (Council on Linkages) were highlighted during several sessions at this fall's American Public Health Association (APHA) Annual Meeting, beginning with an interactive session focused on jump-starting implementation of the Council on Linkages' new Strategic Directions. During Working Together to Improve Performance within Public Health: Translating Workforce Development Priorities into Action, participants tackled questions related to the Academic Health Department Learning Community and the Core Competencies for Public Health Professionals, and shared their own experiences with these initiatives. In addition, attendees of the session moderated by Council on Linkages Chair C. William Keck, MD, MPH, The Public Health Workforce: Building the Future, heard from the Public Health Foundation, Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health, de Beaumont Foundation, and National Board of Public Health Examiners during a discussion about the changing public health workforce - one that requires learning and collaboration to be the strongest it can be.
