Academic health department (AHD) partnerships can benefit from the support of individuals within and outside the organizations involved to sustain their activities; how can we get people to buy-in to the importance of these partnerships? Share Your Core Competencies Resources to be Featured Online
The Council on Linkages Between Academia and Public Health Practice (Council on Linkages) continues to develop and enhance tools and resources to support use of the Core Competencies for Public Health Professionals (Core Competencies) and is currently revamping an online resource that highlights how organizations are putting the Core Competencies into practice. Have you used the Core Competencies to develop a workforce development plan, job description, training, or other workforce development resource? Do you have an example that you can share with others in the public health community? With assistance from the Core Competencies Workgroup, the Council on Linkages is seeking examples of how public health professionals and organizations are using the Core Competencies in these and other workforce development activities. Send your examples to Kathleen Amos at [email protected] today to have your organization's work featured online and help support others in their workforce development efforts.

Upcoming Webinar: Taking Action on Community Health Improvement Priorities
Join the Public Health Foundation (PHF) and Catholic Health Association on Tuesday, May 29, 2018 from 1-2pm EDT for a webinar focused on taking action in support of community health improvement. Featuring two communities participating in the Using The Community Guide for Community Health Improvement pilot initiative, this webinar will offer an overview of this pilot initiative and share stories of action being taken in Baton Rouge, LA and Portsmouth, VA. Through this initiative, Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge, LA and Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center in Portsmouth, VA are working with public health and other community stakeholders, exploring evidence-based strategies, and taking specific actions to address HIV/AIDS and obesity and improve the health of their communities. During this webinar, representatives from Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center and Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center will share their experiences with the initiative, including successes and lessons learned. Archive Now Available for The Heart of New Ulm: Population Health Takes a Village Webinar
In New Ulm, MN, Hearts Beat Back: The Heart of New Ulm, an exciting partnership focused on heart health, was formed 10 years ago. This initiative has successfully reduced heart attacks and improved heart disease risk factors in a rural Minnesota town with partnerships across public health, healthcare, education, government, and business. During a recent webinar, leaders of this innovative program discussed this initiative and what is working to improve health outcomes in the New Ulm community. This webinar was archived and is now available online for those interested in learning more.
