The Public Health Foundation (PHF) will be leading three performance management and quality improvement (QI) presentations at the 2012 Annual American Public Health Association (APHA) conference in San Francisco from October 27-31. The presentations include Building and Sustaining a Culture of Quality Improvement at Local Health Departments, (Session 4038.0), "Toward a High-Performance Future: Refreshing the Turning Point Performance Management Framework," and "QI Goes Viral: South Carolina’s New STD Patient Management Fast Track," both part of the Quality Improvement Program Models in Local, State, and Territorial Health Departments II (Session 5182.0).
The session on Quality Culture within Local Health Departments will be led by PHF Senior Quality Advisor
John (Jack) Moran. In the interactive session, participants will discuss what a quality improvement culture looks like and identify strategies for maintaining a quality culture. Participants will then complete an activity to assess where their organization is with respect to cultivating a quality culture. This session will be held from 8:30-10:00 am on October 30 in the Marriott Marquis Hotel, Room Sierra E.
The session on refreshing the Turning Point Performance Management Framework will be led by
Margie Beaudry and Julia Gray. In this session, participants will learn about performance management framework components, become familiar with the refreshed Turning Point products, view example performance management applications in public health, and be able to explain the benefits of integrating QI tools into the implementation of a performance management framework. The session on South Carolina’s new STD Patient Management Fast Track will be led by
Emily Reineke and Janet Tapp from the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control. In this presentation, participants will view two short videos that display how QI led to improved clinic efficiency and created a culture shift in which employees are embracing QI. The session will also highlight the important role of QI in public health
accreditation. Both of these sessions will be held from 12:30-2:00 pm on October 31 in the Marriott Marquis Hotel, Room Sierra H.
