March 2013 is the 40th Anniversary of
National Nutrition Month. Created by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, National Nutrition Month is a nutrition, education, and information campaign that focuses attention on the importance of making informed food choices and developing sound eating and physical activity habits.
1 This year’s theme, "Eat Right, Your Way, Every Day," encourages personalized healthy eating styles and recognizes that food preferences, lifestyle, cultural and ethnic traditions, and health concerns all impact individual food choices.
2 With more than one-third of U.S. adults (35.7%) and approximately 17% (or 12.5 million) of children and adolescents aged 2—19 years are obese, it is imperative that nutritious food become the norm in schools, homes, after-school programs, stores, and communities throughout the country.

TRAIN, the nation’s premier learning management system for professionals and volunteers who protect the public’s health, offers local, state, and national trainings that public health professionals can utilize in promoting nutrition. Trainings available on TRAIN that address nutrition include but are not limited to:
- Which program and policy interventions have been proven effective?
- Are there effective interventions that are right for my community?
- What might effective interventions cost; what is the likely return on investment?
