The
Strategic Practice Selection Exercise is a data driven decision making exercise to show how health departments can use a strategic practice selection process to assess the availability, affordability, accessibility, and utility of potential interventions. The priority areas selected for this exercise include tobacco use prevention and cessation, mitigation of diabetes in the context of obesity, and clinical public health prevention services since they each contribute to a sizable proportion of avoidable annual deaths in the United States. Readers who share these priority areas can tailor this exercise to their community or can substitute them with their own priorities, which can then be used for developing a community-based implementation plan. This exercise was developed by
Norma Kanarek for the Public Health Foundation (PHF) with funding from the
Affordable Care Act (ACA) Capacity Building Assistance to Improve the Public Health Infrastructure Investments through a cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
