Advancing the public health workforce to achieve organizational excellence
Workforce Development Planning

The COVID-19 pandemic has demonstrated the need for health department staff to be skilled in the Core Competencies for Public Health Professionals (Core Competencies). The goal of this service is to help your health department reassess workforce development needs, prioritize Core Competencies for essential health department roles and responsibilities, and determine where critical skill gaps exist and how to fill them.

The Public Health Foundation (PHF) will work with your health department to:

  • Determine job categories to be used for prioritizing Core Competencies needs
  • Facilitate a staff prioritization process for determining priority competencies by job categories
  • Develop a process to identify gaps in competencies
  • Identify available training to fill identified competency gaps
Duration: This service can be delivered remotely over days or weeks along with remote coaching, or it can be provided on-site over consecutive days.
