Public health organizations are often involved in a variety of planning activities, including the development of community health improvement plans, strategic plans, quality improvement plans, and workforce development plans. To achieve maximum impact, such plans need to be coordinated and operationalized. During this fall’s American Public Health Association (APHA) Annual Meeting, the Public Health Foundation (PHF) will host a workshop focused on aligning workforce development plans with other organizational plans, strategies, and activities. Participants will be introduced to quality improvement methods and tools that can be used in developing, operationalizing, and aligning their workforce development plans and will be provided with an opportunity to practice some of these tools in small groups. This interactive session will help public health professionals move workforce development efforts from planning to implementation to achieve desired organizational outcomes. In addition, an example of how the Kane County (IL) Health Department developed and aligned its workforce development plan will be discussed. All public health professionals interested or involved in workforce development planning are welcome to attend.
