The National Association of County & City Health Officials (NACCHO) will hold its NACCHO Annual 2015 event at the Sheraton Kansas City in Kansas City, MO from July 7-9, 2015. This meeting is the year’s most concentrated gathering of local health officials, where attendees can gain valuable access to public health leaders from across the country. This year’s conference theme is “Envisioning the Future: Creating Our Path.”

The Public Health Foundation (PHF) will be conducting two pre-conference workshops and one sharing session, and displaying resources and tools for local health officials in the exhibit hall during the three-day event, to provide valuable guidance in performance management, quality improvement (QI), and workforce development to all attendees.

Pre-Conference Workshops: Tuesday, July 7, 2015
Community Transformation Imperative: The Chief Health Strategist
Time: 8 – 10 AM | Room: Chicago B | PHF Presenter: Jack Moran

A multi-collaborative community health transformation is needed to improve and manage community health. It involves a major alteration of the leadership mindset and culture of the various entities managing multi-collaborative solutions. This session will discuss the current state of public health and healthcare, look toward the future state of community health, and focus on why a health department should become the chief health strategist, what is required, and outline the path for how the health department can get there.
 
Developing and Implementing a Successful Workforce Development Plan
Time: 1 – 3 PM | Room: Chicago B | PHF Presenters: Ron Bialek, Jack Moran, and Kathleen Amos
 
The Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB) Standards and Measures Version 1.5 requires health departments to develop and implement a workforce development plan. This interactive session will help participants with developing and implementing a successful workforce development plan that meets PHAB requirements and long- and short-term health department needs.

Smoothing the Barriers to Quality Improvement and Accreditation: 9 Pillars to Keep Local Health Departments on the Path
Time: 8:45 – 10:15 AM | Room: Atlanta | PHF Presenters: Sonja Armbruster and Jack Moran

Part A | Illinois Accreditation and Quality Improvement Network: Members of the network will present experiences, partners, lessons learned, and tools to prepare local health departments for a continuous quality improvement journey with public health accreditation.
 
Part B | PHF: Developing and assessing a quality improvement mindset throughout the organization can be challenging. This workshop will offer hands-on practice with a new 9 Pillars of Quality Improvement tool developed by PHF -- mapped to relevant Public Health Accreditation measures -- to keep your agency on the path to a culture of quality improvement.
 
Exhibit Booth
Beginning on Tuesday, July 7, and continuing through Thursday, July 9, PHF will display resources and tools for local health officials at booth # 313 in the Expo Hall, which is located adjacent to the Mezzanine Foyer of the Sheraton Kansas City. At the PHF exhibit booth, attendees will find:

PHF staff will be at the exhibit booth to answer any questions from attendees related to our current activities, resources, and tools. A special guest this year, Deb Nickels from the Kansas Department of Health & Environment will also be at the PHF booth to talk with attendees about the state’s experience with TRAIN, the premier learning management network for professionals and volunteers who protect the public’s health. Local health departments now have the option to join TRAIN as a local affiliate and can benefit from Ms. Nickel’s expertise as KS-TRAIN’s administrator for the state.
