More than ten years ago, the Public Health Foundation (PHF) helped develop the Turning Point Performance Management Framework and related resources. Currently, PHF is refining and updating the framework and related resources due to its widespread use, inclusion of performance management in Public Health Accreditation Board standards, and the many lessons that have been learned from health departments since initial development. Learn more about the updated materials and view current performance management resources on the Turning Point Performance Management Refresh page.

As part of the refresh work, PHF is compiling and sharing one-page examples of current performance management applications in public health. These examples demonstrate how health departments have successfully applied a customized approach to strategically advance agency performance to better serve and improve the health of the community. Also, Brenda Nickel, Performance Improvement Manager for Kansas, shared the Kansas experience about how their revitalized performance management system is being used to support quality improvement planning and accreditation readiness activities.

PHF would like to hear about your experiences in performance management; get involved by:
  • Emailing PHF to give input on the initial refreshed materials and resources and share your example of current performance management applications in public health.
  • Adding a comment below to share activities, outcomes, lessons learned, and challenges associated with performance management from which other health departments could benefit.
  • Attending the Toward a High-Performance Future: Refreshing the Turning Point Performance Management Framework session at the American Public Health Association’s Annual Meeting in San Francisco, California, on Wednesday, October 31 at 12:30pm.
