Tulsa Health Department’s Success in Using Lean to Reduce Waste

With assistance from PHF, the Tulsa Health Department Quality Improvement Council (QIC) conducted a Lean event in three of its facilities with the objective of beautification of the environment and creating efficiency for the customer.  Lean is a process management philosophy that helps optimize the flow of products and services through entire value streams that flow horizontally across technologies, assets, and departments to customers.  As a result of the Lean event, the QIC discovered issues with signage, clutter under staircases and in storage areas, safety hazards with stored items, and other environmental issues.  The QIC decided they would continue to use Lean to develop a process for staff to identify and dispose of the waste uncovered in their site visits.  Click on View Resource above to learn more about Tulsa Health Department’s success in using Lean to reduce waste.

Visit PHF’s QI Practical Applications page to learn how performance management (PM) and QI can benefit the internal operations of a team or organization and the community it serves.  To request for information on PHF’s PM&QI training and technical services, submit an inquiry form.
