Research and Policy Director, City of Milwaukee Health Department
Adjunct Assistant Professor, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee School of Public Health
Location: Milwaukee, WI

Length of Time in Public Health:
Current Work Setting:
- Academic institution
- Governmental public health
Relationship Building Experience:
- I have been involved in developing an academic health department (AHD)
Going back nearly 15 years when I started my graduate-level training, I always felt drawn to the practitioner side of an issue. After a long, strange trip including working in the private sector for 2 years, I found myself back in academia as a staff person in a medical school. That fired me up to go back to school and complete the PhD I started 6 years earlier, while still allowing me to work full-time in a community-based academic setting. When my current position was created, it was a perfect fit; I can be thought of as the "in-house academic" in a local public health department.
