The Open Forum for Quality Improvement in Public Health (Open Forum) will be held June 12-13, 2014, in Kansas City, Missouri. The Open Forum facilitates the exchange of best practices, expands the community of practice, and builds capacity among public health departments for accreditation and quality improvement (QI) activities. The event focuses on contemporary advances, inspirational stories, tools, and cutting edge topics from the field of QI in public health. The Open Forum is hosted by the National Network of Public Health Institutes and is sponsored by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

The Public Health Foundation (PHF) will conduct a roundtable session and display materials at this year’s Open Forum, to increase attendees’ knowledge of useful QI, performance management, and workforce development information for public health professionals.

On Thursday, June 12, 2014, from 1-2pm CDT, and repeated again from 2-3pm CDT, PHF’s Director of Strategic Communications Russell Rubin will lead a discussion on “Planning Before You Communicate: A Strategic Communications Approach.” This interactive session will help attendees build a communications plan that is designed to reach the target audience in the right place, at the right time, with the right message. New from PHF, the “Planning Before You Communicate Tool” will be shared during the roundtable to generate conversation about best practices in communications among health departments. The tool is also featured during the Strategic Communications Planning Workshop, a new strategic planning technical assistance offering from PHF.
