Limiting Wasted COVID-19 Vaccine

Every dose of COVID-19 vaccine is precious and can save lives. In response to concerns about wasted vaccine and to assist in identifying various causes of vaccine waste and potential countermeasures to reduce their occurrence, the Public Health Foundation (PHF) developed the Process Decision Program Chart for COVID-19 Vaccine Waste. Achieving Greater Efficiency in Your COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic

Delayed appointments. Long lines. Frustrated consumers. These are some of the challenges facing COVID-19 vaccination clinics. Mapping patient flow and using quick and easy continuous improvement tools like the Stop/Start/Continue Matrix will enable any clinic to make daily improvements. COVID-19 Vaccination Training

Many health professionals administering COVID-19 vaccinations have extensive experience with immunization practices, but for others, this may be their first clinical experience with vaccination. PHF, working with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), has compiled current vaccine storage, handling, administration, and communication trainings, along with trainings specific to the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, and made them easily accessible through the recently updated training plan, COVID-19 Vaccination Training Programs for Healthcare Professionals

Your help is needed to ensure the Core Competencies for Public Health Professionals (Core Competencies) continue to reflect the reality of working in public health and meet the needs of the public health workforce. The Council on Linkages Between Academia and Public Health Practice is beginning the process of revising the Core Competencies and welcomes feedback from the broad public health community to inform the revisions. Fight Flu Into 2021: It’s Not Too Late!

It’s not too late to get vaccinated for the flu or to make a strong flu vaccine recommendation to patients and families. Flu vaccination will decrease the number of flu-related hospitalizations and healthcare visits as well as preserve finite medical resources. New Tool Available to Connect and Align HAI/AR Activities with Public Health Accreditation

Looking for ideas of how healthcare-associated infection (HAI) and antibiotic resistance (AR) program activities can contribute to health department accreditation? PHF worked with CDC in vetting and finalizing a crosswalk tool connecting HAI and AR activities with the Public Health Accreditation Board Standards and Measures. This tool can be used to demonstrate how HAI and AR activities help strengthen and support crosscutting health department performance improvement efforts.
