Resources for Competency 14:
Assures continuous improvement of the performance management system and quality improvement policies and programs.
- Performance Management Toolkit: This Public Health Foundation (PHF) resource provides information in two areas: approaches to performance management and performance management system framework components and resources. Components of visible leadership, performance standards, performance measurement, reporting progress, and quality improvement (QI) are discussed in detail.
- Performance Management Self-Assessment: This assessment, originally part of the Turning Point Initiative, was updated in 2012 as part of the Public Health Performance Management System Framework. It can be used to identify both strengths and areas for improvement in their performance management systems. Included in the tool are background information, instructions, additional resources, and key term definitions.
- Embracing Quality in Public Health: A Practitioner’s Quality Improvement Guidebook: Michigan Public Health Institute’s Office of Accreditation and Quality Improvement provides a guidebook about the implementation and use of QI in the field of public health.
- When to Apply Quality Improvement Tools to Support Measurement Activities: This PHF and the National Network of Public Health Institutes collaborative tool helps public health organizations identify when and how to use QI tools. It is designed to be used in conjunction with the Public Health Quality Improvement Encyclopedia.
- Performance Measurement for Public Health Policy: PHF and the American Public Health Association have created a tool focused explicitly on performance management for public health policy. This tool includes sample measures for evaluating the success of policy activities and a downloadable template to fill-in with specific activities and measures.
